Skateboarding Australia (SbA) promotes the growth and development of skateboarding in Australia. Our role is to develop skateboarding at all levels and to increase opportunities for skateboarders.
SbA is the fundamental platform and linkage between the Federal Government and the Australian skateboarding community.
In 2005 the nonprofit National Sporting Organisation, Skate Australia (SA), established Skateboarding Australia to ensure the recognition of the unique skateboarding culture was nurtured with distinct branding and management that reflects the needs of Australia's skateboarding community.
SbA, along with valued support from the Australian skateboard industry, is increasing overall awareness and participation opportunities for skateboarders in Australia through the delivery of regular, high quality and professionally managed events.

How does Skateboarding Australia receive its funding?

What is the composition of the Skate Australia board?
The Skate Australia board is an independent board of directors that have a legal responsibility to ensure that the organisation is run professionally, efficiently and honestly.
What is the voting procedure to elect members of Skate Australia board?
The Skate Australia board is elected by a council which comprises of representatives from each of the member states and branches.
Can skateboarders nominate to become a member of the Skate Australia board?
Yes.
Have skateboarders nominated to become a member of the Skate Australia board?
No.
How is funding allocated within Skate Australia?
The allocation for funding between the skate sports of Skate Australia is decided by their alignment and capacity to achieve the goals of the ASC.
Is SbA a non-profit organization?
The development branch of Skateboarding Australia is non-profit. SbA Pty Ltd. is a private company limited by a guarantee.
How much funding has Skate Australia received from the ASC for financial years?
2009/10: $186,000
2010/11: $836,000 (new funding announcement received in Nov 2010.)

How many of the (60+) ASC funded sports were given participation funding increases in 2010?
All sports had the opportunity to bid for funding only #29 of the 60+ sports received any additional participation funding.
Skate Australia was in the top ten.
How many of the (60+) ASC recognized sports were given business development grants?
To date only four organizations have worked with the ASC to develop new business project (Skate Australia was one of four).
Does Skate Australia receive High Performance Funding?
No. Currently Skate Australia only receives participation funding.
Why does Skate Australia not receive High Performance funding?
A variety of criteria are used to assess all sports on the capacity to achieve the results of the ASC in the high performance area. Skate Australia is not viewed as a priority sport in high performance.
What factors have given skateboarding this level of recognition and support from the ASC?
The capacity and history of working results from Skate Australia / Skateboarding Australia and the significant impact that the organization’s can have in assisting the ASC in achieving its goals.
No other government in the world has recognised the cultural significance of skateboarding as much as in Australia.
Is SbA a part of the current push to get skateboarding at the Olympics?
No.
What events and programs do SbA deliver?
The SbA Am Series, SbA Pro/Am Tour, The Goldy Grail, along with development programs Streetwise and Break n Enter.
What is the SbA Pro/Am Tour?
The Skateboarding Australia Pro/Am Tour is the accumulation of points across Australia's highest profile 'invite only' skateboard competitions (min prize purse of $10,000). At the end of the year the skater with the most points will be awarded the title of 'Australian Champion' and receive a cash bonus of $5000.
What is StreetWise?
'Streetwise’ is a targeted national grassroots development program designed to offer youth from all walks of life the opportunity to become actively involved in skateboarding in Australia. StreetWise provides youth in all areas with the opportunity to be involved in skateboarding clinics conducted by some of Australia's best skaters who have completed the Australian Sports Commissions (ASC) National Coach Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) skateboarding course.

What is Break n Enter?
Break-n-Enter is a new program which targets the inactive youth, by encouraging them to Break away from the TV / Couch and Enter into the world of skateboarding. The one day FREE skateboarding workshops are delivered in a festival environment with all skateboard & safety equipment freely available on the day.

Does SbA support female skateboarding?
Yes. Through our open gender and female specific clinics. The SbA Am Series is open gender, and we are currently planning the 2012 Australian Female Championships.
How does SbA help the wider skateboarding community?
By encouraging participation opportunities and promoting up and coming talent with the SbA Am Series.
We are also showcasing and offering significant prize money to the current top talent with the Goldy Grail and the SbA Pro/Am Tour.
Skate photographers, writers and videographers can also earn money by contributing to our website.
Employment opportunities also exist to skateboarders as coaches, judges & emcee’s.
Plus the provision of insurance and event sanctions to enable skateboarding events to happen.
Letters of support for new skateparks and skatepark upgrades.
