Council Support
Councils play an important role in the support and development of skateboarding through events, programs and facilities at a local government level.
In support, Skateboarding Australia have developed a number of events, programs and educational courses that are designed to provide councils with assistance in the development and sustainability of Skateboarding activities and facilities at a local government level.
StreetWise
Do you have a skate park in your council region? Does your council want to be involved in a nationally recognised sports development program for Skateboarding? Do you want to provide incentives, motivation and activities for your local skaters?
If you have answered Yes to any of these questions, then Skateboarding Australia’s ‘StreetWise’ program is for YOU!
What is StreetWise?
Streetwise’ is a targeted national grassroots sports development program designed to offer kids from all walks of life the opportunity to become actively involved in freestyle sports in Australia. StreetWise provides opportunities for young Australian’s to get active, stay healthy and enjoy action sports such as skateboarding on a regular basis, in a safe and well managed environment.StreetWise targets both boys and girls aged between 6 – 17 years. Participants are able to enjoy four hours of coaching at their local skate park over two days with some of Australia’s best freestyle
sporting athletes who are officially recognized via the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) National Coach Accreditation Scheme as level one skateboarding coaches employed by Skateboarding Australia.
Throughout the program, coaches will train participants in the following areas;

Skating safety- including encouraging use of protective equipment

Skate park etiquette- reducing the risk of park collisions

Board/skate maintenance

Injury prevention

Skill development

Skateboard Accreditation Courses
The Skateboarding Australia Level One Skateboarding Coaching Course offers participants access to quality training and recognition by the Australian Sports Commission.
The course is a two-day workshop, designed to cover the general principles of coaching and the sports specific issues pertinent to skateboarding. Skateboarding Australia conduct level 1 skateboard accreditation courses on a demand basis. A minimum of 10 participants is required to conduct an accreditation course at your local skate park.

Skateboarding Australia Event Sanctions
Skateboarding Australia has now extended its services, with a goal ‘to deliver a stream of consistent, high quality events to the skateboarders of Australia to encourage continual and ongoing participation’.
With a vision of a complete pathway for skaters from local to elite level competitions, Skateboarding Australia will assist local councils and event deliverers to provide their skateboarding community with greater opportunities for participation, whilst focusing our operations on the delivery of quality national development programs & national events series.
All Skateboarding Australia events are run in accordance with our strict risk management policy. In addition, an event-specific risk management plan will be put in place that aligns with the local municipalities risk management policy as it is our intention that every event is run with the care and thoroughness that we ourselves put into the delivery of Skateboarding Australia managed events.
As such, we aim to ensure that a reputation of safety and quality assurance is a benefit that you are purchasing with a Skateboarding Australia sanction.
