Tommy Fynn is as crispy clean as a skateboarder can get. He beholds technique and skills beyond comprehension. To give you an example: he has one of the hardest of ‘the base’ tricks down on lock: the backside noseblunt slide. Anyone who has ever tried one on anything knows that the slip out potential is lethal. Young Tommy Fynn however owns this slippery sucker and can take it to even the dastardliest obstacles. No matter what speed is needed, how high the beast of a rail or ledge is, no matter how awkward it is to hit, Tommy will manipulate his board and body into the perfect lock in, slide and roll out with his trademark steeze: fresher than a Minties factory.

Through his various homes (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) and travels through skateboarding Tommy has seen a myriad of cultures. This along with his humble, enthusiastic, happy disposition has lathed Tommy into as well balanced a human as he is a skateboarder.

Just the other day I caught up with Tommy over the instawebs during the middle of a NZ mission.

MC: Hey Tommy! How are you mate?
TF: Hey Buddy! I’m really well.

MC: Where are you at the moment?
TF: I’m in Auckland, New Zealand at the moment; trying to shoot a Manual interview!

MC: Is it good to be back in ye old stomping grounds trying to get tricks and clips?
TF: Yeah man it’s been great! It has been really good skating with my old crew! It’s also fun going back to old spots.

MC: Which towns have you been hitting up in NZ?
TF: I've only been in Auckland so far man; I'm thinking about travelling around. I know Wellington has some spots to hit.

MC: Any funny, odd or weird things happen to you whilst you have been out on the Manual mission?
TF: Nah not really... a few days ago we were out skating this wheel chair ramp and it was right near this busy road. So I was kickflipping over this wheel chair ramp and on one my board shot out and onto the road and ended up under this family car. They slammed on the brakes and the cars behind them did the same. It was so loud; everyone thought it was a huge accident, I had to pull my board from under the car and get out of there.

MC: Once this is done what are you plans?
TF: Once I get back to Brisbane I’m gunna start filming for the new Australian video “Mobbin’ Deep”.

MC: Whilst on the subject of video, I remember a few months back you had one of the most epic Mag Minutes to date. Did you get good feed back as a result of this?
TF: Yeah man I am so happy with how my Mag Minute turned out! I got nothing but positive feedback!

MC: You have also appearing a bunch on your crews website “theBay” what is that all about?
TF: TheBay is the best skateboarding website! Me and my homies started it back in 2010. TheBay is a site where you can find out what’s going on in skating, there are interviews photos and video clips on there. We always keep it fresh and new! So you have to check it out! thebayskate.com.

MC: When a guy becomes a Bay Boy do they have to enter some kind of induction process or is it pretty straightforward?
TF: Anyone can be apart of thebay; we have shirts now so get one of those and you’re on your way! To be an O.G Bay Boy, you’ve got to have the right postcode.

MC: What kind of Tommy action can we expect to see on thebay?
TF: I’m looking at putting out a small video part on thebay soon, so look out for that.

MC: Do you think that a lot of pros and sponsored ams are tripping on how much the internet has taking over as a form of getting coverage or do you think everyone is used to it now?
TF: I think everyone is used to it, it’s just the way it is now. I still trip on it all the time. I miss the good old days of video players. I feel like back then when something came out: people got more excited.

MC: Last time I saw you, you were at the City Squared 3 contest here in Melbourne. You were on fire! Did you have a fun day?
TF: Yeah City Squared was fun man! It was good catching up with old friends and skating.

MC: Do you much prefer jam format contests to the traditional timed run?
TF: Jam format for sure!

MC: How do you stay so calm when money is on the line and so many people are watchin’ you?
TF: I just don’t think about it anymore. The way I see it is that all my friends are in the same place trying to skate something new. I really enjoy watching everyone’s different style and how they go about skating the course.

MC: Have you been in any comps of this nature overseas?
TF: Yeah I’ve been in a few in the States, I’ve been in a few Damn Ams, and it’s a really fun contest.

MC: How did the whole Chocolate thing come about?
TF: Just as the whole Santa Cruz thing was coming to an end, I got an email from Sam (Smyth) the Girl and Chocolate TM. He said he was down to give me Chocolate boards and I've been riding them ever since.

MC: So once Mobbin’ Deep is wrapped up you are off to the States right?
TF: Yeah back to the states! I can’t wait: summer over there is sick!

MC: What are the plans over there?
TF: My plan is to go for 6 months and skate as much as possible and just keep having fun!
