You may have heard about 30 Seconds to Mars because of their famous front man, actor Jared Leto. Or maybe you’ve heard about them because of their recent win at the US MTV Music Video Awards. Either way, if you haven’t heard about them you soon will! 30 Seconds to Mars’ infectious, award winning single 'The Kill' hits Australian radio/TV this week and is due for release on October 28. Their album'A Beautiful Lie' will then follow on November 11.
At the recent 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, 30 Seconds to Mars won the fan-driven MTV2 Award for the video for 'The Kill' which was inspired by the Stanley Kubrick film ‘The Shining’.'The Kill' peaked # 3 most played single at Alternative radio in America and is about to enter Top 40 on the US mainstream chart.
The band’s album, ‘A Beautiful Lie’ has gone Gold in the US, selling 600 000+ copies. It is their second album and was produced by Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver). The bands self-titled first album also sold just over 100,000 copies.
"On the first record I created a world, then hid behind it," Leto says. "With A Beautiful Lie, it was time to take a more personal and less cerebral approach. Although this record is still full of conceptual elements and thematic ideas it is ultimately much more wrapped around the heart than the head. It's about brutal honesty, growth, change."
30 Seconds to Mars not only features actor Jared Leto on lead vocals and guitar. Other members include Leto’s brother Shannon on drums, Tomo Milicevic on guitar, and Matt Wachter on keyboard and bass.
From October through November, 30 Seconds to Mars will be playing the "Welcome to the Universe" tour in the US with Head Automatica, Cobra Starship, Rock Kills Kid, Pink Spiders, Woman and Children, and The Receiving End of Sirens. The band has also previously toured with supergroup Audioslave and recently played at the "Inland Invasion" concert in the US alongside Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains, Muse, and Avenged Sevenfold.
